As the weather begins to cool, it’s important to make sure your boiler is in working condition to heat your building effectively and efficiently without causing any issues for you or your employees. As you start using your boiler more, you’ll want to pay close attention to ensure it isn’t showing any signs of malfunctioning. Here are three signs you may need a boiler repair.
- Insufficient heating: The most obvious sign that you need a boiler repair will be insufficient heating. If you turn on the heater only to find a cold building even an hour later, then your boiler isn’t working as effectively as it should be.
- Foul smell: While insufficient heating is the most obvious sign, foul smells are the most important signs to watch out for. It could be a carbon monoxide leak from your boiler, and such a leak could cause health issues for you and any guests or employees. Although carbon monoxide is actually odorless (and we recommend having a carbon monoxide detector installed to alert you of leaks), you may smell something odd when the boiler fails to burn properly. A yellow flame rather than a blue one is also a sign of carbon monoxide being present.
- Strange sounds: If your boiler is making any strange noises—or any noise at all—you should schedule a boiler repair. Boilers typically don’t make any noise, so strange noises might mean that something is loose or broken, and you need to schedule repairs before it stops working entirely.
